Help December 15, 2011 7 Tips & Tricks

1.  How does the selling/buying process work?

See the OfferUp process here: "The OfferUp Process"

2.  Is there a cost to using OfferUp?

There is no cost to download the OfferUp app and no cost to join the service.  At the present time, we do not charge for postings or for transactions on OfferUp.  You determine how long your listing stays on OfferUp, we do not automatically delete after a specific time

3. How does payment work?

For the time being, we recommend all transactions to be completed in-person once the buyer and seller agree on item and price. Check back soon to see updates on mobile payments!

4. How does OfferUp keep my information secure?

In addition to changing the way we buy and sell, OfferUp wants to make sure every user's information is safe and secure. OfferUp uses commercially reasonable physical, managerial, and technical safeguards to preserve the integrity and security of your personal information.

5.  How does OfferUp keep my information private?

It’s your information and it should be your choice who sees it. That's why OfferUp has made all in-app communication completely anonymous. Whenever a message, question, or offer is sent, the message filters through OfferUp, keeping any identifying information anonymous. The user has the option to reveal address, cell phone number, etc, but OfferUp will never do so and with the easy built in communication you won't have to.

6. How do I manage my offers?

Once you have posted an offer, you can access and manage the offer from the "My Offers" section in the app. From there, you can engage in discussions, mark an item as sold, unlist, delete, and even share the item via Facebook, Twitter, email, etc.

7. Is OfferUp only in Seattle?

OfferUp is available on your iPhone through the iTunes Store. We’re focused on building a community of users in the Seattle-area first and then growing our community nationwide. With that said, it is accessible anywhere in the U.S. through any iPhone.  Given that our community is still growing, you just might not find any  or many buyers or sellers in your local area.

8. Are there any stores using OfferUp?

Actually, yes! We have several children's consignment shops from the Seattle area already using OfferUp, including Hopscotch, Le Petit Shoppe, Little Quadoo, and My Kids Closet to name a few. If you are a local business owner and would be interested in learning more about OfferUp, you can request an in-person demo by emailing us at shops@offerupnow.com.

9.  What's the difference between a fixed price and an asking price?

A fixed price means that the seller is not willing to go any lower than that price. Please note, that if the price is fixed, it likely means there can be little to no bargaining, especially if the seller is a local business.

An asking price is open for bids and negotiations, so feel free to submit those offers!

10.  What is the OfferUp TruYou Program?

At OfferUp we are passionate about improving the buy/sell experience & creating a safer local marketplace. Everyone feels more comfortable knowing who stands behind an offer.  So we created TruYou Program to help increase safety and confidence in the process.

11.  What does it mean if someone is a TruYou Member?

With the TruYou Program, you can share specific information with OfferUp to verify that you are truly you.  While OfferUp cannot guarantee or vouch for a person’s identity, we offer a number of tools for users to build reputation and verify the information on their profile. For the TruYou Program, we require users to verify email addresses and connect with their Facebook account to OfferUp. Finally, a scan of their driver’s license lets us check to see if it’s the real deal.   Over time, OfferUp may change or add additional requirements for TruYou membership.

12.  How do I join the TruYou Program?

There a few requirements to joining the program.  First you must log into OfferUp with your Facebook account information.  Second, make sure you activate your account by clicking on the link in the confirmation email.  Finally, you will need to provide a scan of your driver’s license to OfferUp.  To do this, go to the “Join TruYou” button found in the Profile section of the OfferUp mobile application.  Follow the wizard to take a scan of your driver’s license.  Once completed, you will receive an email confirming your submission.

13.  What happens to the information I submit?

Your account sign-in information is encrypted and stored on our secure servers.  For the driver’s license scan, we only use the information you submit to conduct the identification validation process.  We do not store the information. To learn more about how we treat your information, please see OfferUp’s privacy policy (link to web page).

14.  How much does the TruYou Program cost and do I have to become a TruYou member?

There is no charge for choosing to become a TruYou member and it is completely voluntary.

15.  Is OfferUp available for Android phones?

We’re currently focused on offering the best experience to iPhone users but we’ll have an Android version in the future. We don’t have an exact date for Android availability yet.

16. How do I mark my listing as sold?

Within the app tap the $ button to show your listings. Tap the listing you want to change. A menu will popup with several options. Tap the 'Mark As Sold' button. This will remove your listing from OfferUp and inform users that were interested in your listing that it has sold.

17. How do I add multiple images?

OfferUp currently supports one image per listing to keep it super simple. If you do want to use more than one image then check out these great apps our users suggested to easily combine multiple images into one:  PicFrame or FrameMaker.
